6 Easy Ways to Practice Self-Love Today

Self-Love

This post was featured on my previous blog but it was such an inspirational post for me to write years ago that I wanted to bring it over an share it with you all. It can be overwhelming at times to stop and enjoy the moment. To truly be present and enjoy your life exactly how it is. To nourish yourself inside and out. To live authentically. Practicing self-love can completely transform your life and create new opportunities. I hope you enjoy this post and perhaps it can serve as a gentle reminder that each day is a blessing!

School + illness + work + chores = STRESS.

I don’t know about you all but it seems as though my work has been piling up and my stress level has significantly increased in the last month or so. If I didn’t know any better, I’d grab a tub of ice cream and wallow away, but DON’T do that- or at least indulge for a day but then get back on track ladies! Times can get tough, but that’s when you must step back, take a deep breath, and move forward. Today I want to touch upon other little improvements that will make a huge different in de-stressing your life and upgrading your happiness level.

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” – Buddha

Whether your stressed from relationships, work, school or what not, please don’t allow it to get the best of you. Simply, “keep calm and carry on.” I happened to be shopping at Target and saw a picture frame with that quote in it and had an ah ha moment!

So what can you do to reduce your stress level? Take care of yourself! You can’t control outside forces, but you can control how you react and live your life. Take time to consider what makes you happy in your life and then try applying them starting today!

Here are six easy ways to  practice self-love today:

1. Incorporate me time.

If you enjoy music or reading, go buy or check out a great read and snuggle in bed with the book. Then blast your favorite songs in your room or in the car and jam out to it. Taking your mind off of whatever is stressing you out, even if it’s just a temporary fix, will help.

2. Explore a new exercise regimen.

Now is not the time to let your body go to shambles. If you’re getting bored of the treadmill, try going outside for a walk or bike ride. I happen to have really gotten into bellydancing lately, and it is so fun that it doesn’t even feel like I’m working out!

3. Try new things!

Go out and explore new options that will make yourself happy! Try a new food or do something entirely spontaneous, you never know who you might meet or what could happen. I really wanted to re-learn Spanish, so I’m starting to take lessons again and I’m excited for the future.

4. Spend time with people you care about!

Call your friends and go out for a night. Socializing and laughing are great remedies for stress. You can even spend quality time with your family- rent a movie or play board games at home.

5. Find inspiration online or invest in self-help books.

There is no shame in trying to improve yourself, so research online for great books to motivate you, such as The Secret or A New Earth. I also really enjoy reading other inspirational blogs on success and happiness and watching online vlogs.

6. Treat yourself to a mini makeover or go shopping.

Nothing says fun like a little retail therapy. I’m not saying you splurge all of your money on beauty/hair supplies, but a little transformation and pampering can go a long way! I recently got highlights and bought a new shade of lipgloss and it’s already doing wonders for my self confidence. And speaking of confidence- build up your self confidence! If you don’t love yourself, how can you expect anyone else to?

No one can love you as much as you love yourself, so take time to focus on yourself and be the best you that you possible can be.

What do you do to relax or de-stress? I’d love to know!

  • I love these self love tips. I would really like to incorporate some yoga routines in my schedule a few times a week, not just for exercise but to relieve stress also. I just got some fitness resistance bands that are helping with some of the workouts.
When I’m home with my son and I’ve entertained him for a while, I like to have some me time by giving him something he likes and plugging in my headphones to listen to some music. I don’t get out much lol so it’s a great way to just listen to what I want and also tackle some chores while I’m at it, lol. 🙂

  • Exercise is definitely a very important thing I pretty much put to the side every day. It’s so hard to find time for everything when you’re trying to do everything so it’s all about prioritizing and incorporating these steps into your day, no matter how big or small!

    • Meagan

Same here! This year I am putting a lot more emphasis on exercise. Best luck to you.

I have been trying to wake up earlier than when my son wakes up. This gives me some time to work on the blog and enjoy a cup of coffee before the madness begins!! Working out is also a huge stress reliever for me, I sleep better and feel better on the days where I work out. Great advice!

    • Meagan

Thank you for reading! This year I am going to try out waking up earlier in the morning to either work out or work on my blog.

Such awesome advice. I tend to get way too stressed out and allow my mental, physical, and emotional health to fall to the wayside. I’m definitely keeping these tips in mind as a new semester of school starts up.

    • Meagan

I am the same way, especially when work starts to pick up. It’s a new year and the perfect time to create a better balance for health and success.

  • This is so good for the new year! #4 is much more important than we realize, and I think a lot of people don’t consider it something they do for themselves!

  • Allinonemom

Great ideas! I’m really trying to not take on things that aren’t mine to do – like the kids’ chores. It’s hard not to do it all because I know I’ll do it “right” but it takes such a toll on me. Gotta let it go! Thanks for these ideas.

  • Love this! I also feel like the tub of ice cream could be good “me” time lol.

  • Erin Shebish

Oh I needed this today! Im definitely not feeling like I’ve started the year off with the right self care.

  • Brianna

Great list. Self care is crucial. I forget this often.

  • jillconyers

Yes to all of these! Self love and care makes us better at all the other things we have to be and do.

These are some great ideas!!! 2015 was all about my blog and turning it into a business…. Which I totally nailed… 2016 is the year of myself… Time to be the best me I can be 🙂

  • A year ago, I wasn’t taking enough time for myself, and now this past year, I think I’ve taken too much time. I need to find a good balance between staying focused and not getting stressed.
